Brave Writer Classes FAQ

For a reluctant writer, heavy red-pen editing right out of the gate causes them to freeze up. The Brave Writer method focuses on fluency before mechanics. Just as babies learn to speak before they learn grammar rules, we get students comfortable expressing their ideas without fear. We then introduce grammar naturally through rich literature and collaborative revision, rather than dry worksheets.
A child's imagination is often much faster than their physical handwriting skills. When we do "Partnership Writing" (Ages 8-10), our tutors share the physical and mental load of getting words on the page. It prevents fatigue, keeps ideas flowing, and acts exactly like using training wheels to build balance and confidence before they ride solo!
They are at the perfect age for our early learners track! We use the "Jot It Down" method. Your child dictates their stories, and our tutors act as the scribe. This allows your child to experience the joy of storytelling and authorship without the responsibility of transcription, which makes them highly motivated to learn spelling and handwriting as they grow.
Absolutely. We call this the "Building Confidence" stage. Middle schoolers often face 'writer's block' because they try to critically edit while they creatively write. We use timed "Freewriting" to bypass their inner critic. Once they see their ideas are valuable, we teach them how to gently revise and polish those rough drafts into powerful essays.
