Stephen Spencer

Steve Spencer has taught English, History, and Special Education for the last ten years in various public school settings in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. His greatest strength lies in his ability to build trusting relationships with students, enabling them to strengthen their reading and writing skills. He believes that the foremost need in education is for students to effectively read and write. Without this foundation, students cannot demonstrate their learning in the classroom setting. As a second-career teacher, he knows firsthand what is needed to survive and succeed in the workplace.

Before becoming a teacher, Steve was a hospital chaplain and adult educator for thirty-four years across the country. In this context, he taught the importance of building trusting and caring relationships. He now uses these skills as a teacher with students who lack confidence and motivation to trust themselves. He employs this skill set regularly to help students begin to believe in themselves. Steve holds a Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a Master of Divinity degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. Additionally, in 2015, Steve obtained his Career Switcher teaching license from Virginia’s EducateVA program out of Richmond.
